6 HRS AGO - The young guns of the illustrious Arsenal came to Top Field and both teams served up an entertaining and very even game in front of 654 spectators. A draw was probably the equitable result and the Hitchin players can feel proud of their effort and commitment.
Mind you, within a minute of the start a bit of a blooper from Charlie Horlock saw a poor clearance right into the path of an eager Gunner who shot instinctively and it just took a touch for a corner. This was a short one and resulted..... Collapse

17/05/2019 - It is that dreaded time of year for football fans. Whilst summer is soon to be upon us meteorogically, footballistically, we about to enter the deepest, darkest depths of winter. The post season hibernation period which this season runs until August has begun for non-league football fans (there is not even the consolation of a major international tournament this summer!)
What better time to reflect on an astonishingly rocky rollercoaster of a season for Hitchin Town?
With various splurges..... Collapse

29/03/2019 -
Bedworth United came to Top Field today hoping for a stay of execution, but their 4-1 defeat consigns them to relegation, but they deserve full credit for going down rather gallantly and playing a good deal better than the score line suggests. Hitchin were indeed a little cautious as this was wisely considered a game that could indeed be tricky. It will also be remembered that at The Oval in the corresponding fixture the Canaries had to fight from 0-2 down to scramble a 2-2 draw..... Collapse

17/02/2019 - Yes, it was a bizarre winning goal, with comedic overtones and could easily have been prevented if the goal keeper Liam Castle had elected to gather the ball to his chest and not try to clear it on the half volley. It turned out to be the only goal of the game and it saved it from being a fairly dull, goal-less draw – and most vital it was three points which means there are now five teams below Hitchin in the League table.
It was Canaries versus Canaries again and, oddly, the home side ..... Collapse

29/01/2019 - Suffolk has not been the happiest of hunting grounds for the Canaries with losses at Lowestoft and Needham Market, but today, at Victory Road that trend was reversed, but it was perhaps the most difficult of the three most recent games. But it must be said that once again Hitchin have defeated a team placed a good way above them in the table. The one slightly distressing factor is that we remain in the same eighteenth position – but those nine points from nine have meant everything to..... Collapse

04/01/2019 - When you are three minutes away from a hard-earned point and your team has been the better side in the second-half and one error costs a goal and all the points, you might go home a trifle miffed. I did and I accidentally nicked our fixtures’ secretary’s mobile phone as well, which I discovered only when I had reached home. Heartfelt apologies to him for any inconvenience. Call it a senior moment.

07/12/2018 - We have a lot to praise about the performance of the Canaries against their senior county neighbours, who neither outfought nor outplayed the hosts in a somewhat gruelling ninety minutes. The game was like the curate’s egg, being good in parts and was, in vital moments, decided by the goalkeeping prowess of both Michael Johnson and Laurie Walker. The result was decided on penalties where Hitchin did not excel and I take the subjective view that at least the fixture congestion has been..... Collapse

15/07/2019 -
In what turned out to be an entertaining game, Hitchin were ten minutes away from a creditable draw but succumbed to late counterpunch that was a masterpiece of opportunism. Charlie Thake had scored the goal of the game to snatch an equaliser to make it 2-2, but the Conference South visitors always looked as if they had more goals in them and indeed hit the frame of the goal no fewer than three times in the match. Goalkeeper Charlie Horlock again put in a display that suggests he is a ..... Collapse

20/01/2019 - What better way for Hitchin to end a losing sequence of seven consecutive league defeats by beating the league leaders? They did this by coming from behind after ‘gifting’ their opponents a goal after just nine minutes. When I arrived at Top Field I had some brief words with manager Mark Burke in relation to today’s encounter and said ‘the bigger they come…’ and he completed the well-known saying. I think we were both sincere in our belief.

11/01/2019 - Bottom-placed Barnet Elizabethans visited Old Hale Way on 5 January for the first league match of 2019 and gave their hosts a real wake up call.
Leading at halftime by two tries to one, they were forced to stand down a player after 20 minutes of the second half due to injuries to their front row, which in turn led to uncontested scrums. Hitchin took advantage of the extra player to run in three tries, although Barnet scored in the closing minutes to salvage a well-earned losing bonus..... Collapse

A win in this game was particularly desirable for Hitchin, in order to lay the ghost of that 8-1 mauling in the corresponding fixture at the start of the season – but it was not to be and the Canaries suffered their third successive defeat after that splendid run of four league wins.

16/01/2019 - Whilst statistics do not lie they sometimes cloud the issue to a small degree. Yes, this was another defeat in our dark day sequence, but it was a truly gutsy performance, painfully undone by a simply magnificent opening goal and a well-taken second goal that exploited poor marking. Both these goals came inside the first half hour. Leaving these goals aside there was no significant difference between the teams. 07/01/2019 - This fifth consecutive league defeat proved harrowing, especially since the Canaries had come from a two goal deficit to take a remarkable lead and then concede twice to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, if I may be permitted a hackneyed phrase.
The corresponding figure had also thrown up a notable game where Hitchin had come from a two goal deficit to pull a goal back and attack with prominence in the closing stages, and were denied no fewer than three times by the frame of the..... Collapse
