South London poet to bring Dalí's work to life in Balham!
South London poet, Sarah Hobbs, will be bringing her fourth full collection of poetry, DALí: In Verse, to life in Balham at this years Wandsworth Arts Fringe Festival!
The evening at the Balham Bowls Club on Thursday 9th May will consist of poetry being read with visual images representing the pieces of art shown behind with commentary and dialogue on each piece between poems. There will be an opportunity to ask questions to the poet at the end of the talk.
It will be full of surrealism intertwined with a variety of verse. Dalí has excelled in all areas of art and culture from creating strokes on a canvas to setting the scene behind a camera. He has done it all. Within this book Sarah Hobbs tells the narrative story of a selection of Dalí's paintings, uniquely through verse.
Sarah Hobbs says, "I'm really excited to be bringing my collection to this years Wandsworth Arts Fringe event. Salvador Dalí is one of the greatest creative visionaries in history and to be able to pay homage to him in this way is a really special. I feel very honoured to be able do this and to also be part of such a vibrant and energetic festival.
"Art and words are very similar in what they try to achieve. Both are used to create imaginative and evocative imagery that strikes a chord and makes the viewer think and feel. This event looks to do just this."
The foreword written by esteemed Dalí Historian Paul Chimera, from the Salvador Dalí Society in the US, describes the collection as, "Dormant goose bumps, beware! This poetry sees beyond the obvious"
American based surrealist artist, Amy Guidry commented on the collection, "DALí: In Verse is more than just an appreciation of Salvador Dali. It is a celebration of his work."
There will be an opportunity to talk to the poet after the event, where she will be doing a book signing of the collection.
Tickets are available from the Wandsworth Arts Fringe website here
