Introducing Balham Cycling Club!
Originally formed in 1897 in the Balham Hotel (now The Regent), the Balham Cycling Club is a reincarnation of the original club which shut down in 1979 and is a nod to the historical cycling events that once took place in Balham.
Registered with British Cycling and founded on a love of cycling, keeping fit, friendship and having fun, The Balham Cycling Club is friendly, inclusive and helps bring together those in the local community who share an enthusiastic interest in all things cycling!
Road cycling is the main focus of the Balham Cycling Club with monthly social rides and informal social meet ups. Social Rides take place every third Sunday of the month on one of four favourite routes: Reigate Hill, Box Hill, Biggin Hill and Westerham. Each route has two distances with those on the longer route cycling at faster paces to enable the all-important meet up at the chosen pit stop! These social rides are inclusive with four different pace groups with each group riding with a BCC ride leader. You can download the pace menu and routes here.
Also offered for members only are the Club Rides which take place the first Sunday of each month and are designed to help club members improve fitness levels and ability while taking in the beautiful picturesque views of the Home Counties. With a dedicated members only area on the website and a virtual clubhouse in the form of a WhatsApp group, it’s easy to keep up-to-date on information about rides, activities and events that take place throughout the year.
For more information about becoming a member or if you’re interested in riding as an “invitee” to see what it’s all about, check out their website. You can also follow them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!
