BATCA donate £2750 to St George’s Hospital Charity
St George’s Hospital Charity was presented with a cheque for £2,750 at Gatton Primary School following another successful Community Fun Day held in Tooting in September 2018.
The Community Fun Day is an annual celebration of Tooting and Balham’s vibrant community and is organised in partnership by the Al Risalah Educational Trust and its schools, St Augustine’s Church, and the Balham and Tooting Community Association (BATCA). Representatives from these groups were joined by staff and pupils from Ernest Bevin College to celebrate the Fun Day’s success.
Amerjit Chohan, Chief Executive of St George’s Hospital Charity said, “The support from the local community is amazing. Over £23,000 has been raised in total by the Fun Days.”
Kate Allan, BATCA Secretary, highlighted the importance of organisations working in partnership, which “generates meaningful and lasting bonds.” Harbhjan Brar, Board member at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust also expressed appreciation. The best summary was perhaps provided by Gatton School pupils who ended the event with their own composition: “Teamwork is the best! United we stand, divided we fall!”
The donation will help fund equipment including at St George’s including AccuVein, a device designed to help locate veins for administering medication, to be used in services for the elderly, and blood pressure monitors for children’s cancer wards.
The Community Fun Day event unites all faiths, cultures and generations in a lively day out in the heart of Tooting. Civic and faith leaders have praised the event’s contribution in building a cohesive, resilient community.
